About UGC NET Exam:
National Eligibility Test is for post-graduate students who are interested in University level teaching jobs in India. University Grand Commission of India conducts this examination twice a year. It is also conducted for the award of Junior Research Fellowship which is for to conclude minimum standards for eligibility in teaching.
NET is conducted in various subjects like Humanities which also includes languages, Social Sciences, Forensic Sciences, Computer Science and its Applications and much more. The CSIR carry outs CSIR-NET test for the subjects which are not included in NET test like Physical Sciences, Chemical Sciences, etc. These tests are in scheduled in June and December of every year. Definite number of Fellowships is offered to students who qualify JRF by UGC.
First NET test was conducted in 1988 which was common to both, qualification in Lectureship and JRF in two sections i.e. December and March. However, many thought that NET can not be made criterion for the regional subjects and there was a demand for test in native language which gave rise to concept of conducting SET i.e. State Level Eligibility Test. This test is conducted in both English and vernacular language under the management of UGC.
The Pattern for the SET is same as that of National Eligibility Test. Now we will take a brief look at the scope of these examinations. The very first objective of examination is to find candidates which are well enough to conduct lectures in national level Universities and Institutes.
The candidate who cracks JRF Examination, which is a part of NET, is eligible for Lectureship and also receives Fellowship under different schemes depending upon the institute in which he is appointed as lecturer. The validity of the Fellowship is two years from the date it is issued. To get qualify in these tests is very prestigious.
