UPSC IFS Examination 2010 Notification


UPSC recently published notification for Indian Forest Service (IFS) Examination 2010. Since the exam is tough so you must prepare throughly and go through the Exam pattern guide books, study materials, sample papers, old question papers, previous years solved papers, question banks etc.

IFS-2010 exam:

IFS exam forms will be available at designated post offices from 20th February, 2010 onwards
Last date of receipt of application forms at UPSC, New Delhi: 22nd March, 2010.
Last date of receipt of application forms from remote(Far-flung) areas: 29th March, 2010.
(Far-flung areas includes: Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland, Tripura, Sikkim, Jammu & Kashmir, Lahaul and Spiti District and Pangi Sub-Division of Chamba District of Himachal Pradesh, Andaman and Nicobar Islands or Lakshadweep and abroad)

Eligibility:

Age must be Minimum of 21 years & Maximum of 30 years, age relaxations exists as per Government norms.

Academic Qualifications: Candidates need to be a graduate, holding Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university with at least one of the following subjects:

Agriculture, Forestry, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science.
Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Statistics, Geology, Botany, Zoology.
Agricultural Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering.

Candidates who already appeared in the qualifying Bachelor’s degree exam and awaiting your results or if you are a final year student, you can appear in IFS exam, subject to passing the same and providing the proof on qualifying the IFS written exam.

Maximum of four attempts allowed at the IFS examination

The Information Brochure contains information on how to fill uo the from. Affix a postage stamp of Rs.6/- on the Acknowledgement Card. Use only the envelope provided with the UPSCF form for sending the application form & the Acknowledgement Card. Also write the name of examination viz. "Indian Forest Service Examination, 2010" on top of the envelope.

Also to avail extended last date for far-flung areas (i.e. 29th March, 2010), send the forms only through ordinary post/speed post and not by courier.

IAS has been operating since independence at three levels i.e. central, district, divisional. The work at central focuses on framing and implementation of policies. At district level work involves all district affairs with special emphasis on development. At divisional level the main aim is general administration and development work. IAS is work of full of responsibility.

The Indian Police Service (IPS) takes the responsibility of public safety and security. The IPS is divided into various departments like Crime Branch, the Criminal Investigating Department, Home guards, and the Traffic Bureau. They mainly look after the maintenance of law and order, prevent crime, traffic control.

The Indian Forest Service (IFS) works include protection and conservation of forests, wild life and forest produce.

An eligibility age criterion for the Civil Services Preliminary Examnation is that the candidate must be above 21 years and the upper age limit is 30 years. The minimum academic requirement is graduation in nay discipline or any equivalent academic qualification. Candidates are allowed four attempts. There is relaxation for SC/ST. Civil service examination is a lengthy process and takes a full calendar year. The UPSC conducts an preliminary examination which is objective type so that candidates can be screened. There are two papers in this round one of them is general awareness and other is optional subject. Duration of each paper is two hours.

If the candidate clears the preliminary round then he qualifies for the main round. In the main round there is a written test and a interview. The written test has nine papers and is subjective type. The first paper includes test on any one Indian language. Then the second paper is of English the third is essay paper. The paper IV and V contains general studies.

The total marks obtained in both written test and the PI determines the rank of a candidate.  The interview is to access the candidate’s personality. Depending upon the rank a candidate is recruited either as IAS, IPS, IFS or any other post.
