The minimum academic requirement is graduation in nay discipline or any equivalent academic qualification. Candidates are allowed four attempts. There is relaxation for SC/ST. Civil service examination is a lengthy process and takes a full calendar year. The UPSC conducts an preliminary examination which is objective type so that candidates can be screened. There are two papers in this round one of them is general awareness and other is optional subject. Duration of each paper is two hours.
If the candidate clears the preliminary round then he qualifies for the main round. In the main round there is a written test and a interview. The written test has nine papers and is subjective type. The first paper includes test on any one Indian language. Then the second paper is of English the third is essay paper. The paper IV and V contains general studies.
The total marks obtained in both written test and the PI determines the rank of a candidate. The interview is to access the candidate’s personality. Depending upon the rank a candidate is recruited either as IAS, IPS, IFS or any other post.

Civil service examination is a lengthy process and takes a full calendar year. The UPSC conducts an preliminary examination which is objective type so that candidates can be screened. There are two papers in this round one of them is general awareness and other is optional subject. Duration of each paper is two hours.
If the candidate clears the preliminary round then he qualifies for the main round. In the main round there is a written test and a interview. The written test has nine papers and is subjective type. The first paper includes test on any one Indian language. Then the second paper is of English the third is essay paper. The paper IV and V contains general studies.
The total marks obtained in both written test and the PI determines the rank of a candidate. The interview is to access the candidate’s personality. Depending upon the rank a candidate is recruited either as IAS, IPS, IFS or any other post.
