Its primary mission is to ensure the national security and defence of the Republic of India from external aggression and threats, and maintaining peace and security within its borders.

Eligibility:
Only male citizens of India and Ex-service officers who are medically fit.
Age: Candidates age must be between 18 to 42 years as on 25th February 2011.
Qualification: Candidate must be a Graduate from any recognized University.
Employment: Gainfully employed in Central govt./State Govt./Pvt. Firm/Own Business.
Civilian Candidates:
Candidates can download application forms from www.indianarmy.nic.in and send it along with a self-addressed stamped envelope of 28*12 cms size, tow passport size photographs and postal stamps worth rs 12/- affixed on envelope to their respectiveTA GP HQ as per the area given below:-

Indian Army is the ground forces of Indian defence system and is the largest among all the armed forces of India. The prime objective of Indian Army is to maintain the stability in India and protect it from all kind of infiltrations which happen on Indian borders. It also resists all the external threat and aggression towards India. It conducts many rescue operations during the time of natural calamities and other kind of disturbances happening like communal riots etc. it is actively involved with UN in several relief operations.
The birth of Indian Army took after India’s independence from colonial rule in 1947. Indian army inherited the structure of British Indian Army. Joining Indian Army is the voluntary services. No one can force any one to join Indian Army.
Indian Army has faced four major wars since independence. Among them two were with Pakistan and one with China. Several operations have been undertaken by Indian Army like Operation Vijay is most recent and famous. War of 1965 and war of 1971 which were fought with Pakistan and India emerged as winner in both of them.
The President of India is the supreme commander of all the armed forces. So he serves as the supreme chief of the Indian Army (IA). The sovereign commander of the army’s staff is General. Only one General can serve Indian Army at any given. He is a four star commander. Higher to him in strata is a 5-star officer, Field Marshall, who serves as a ceremonial chief. Till date India had only two ceremonial chiefs.
Indian Army is the world’s II largest army which has a active strength of 14, 14,000 tropes and 18, 00, 000 are the reserve tropes.
Officers of Indian Army are divided into three categories:
1. Commissioned officers
2. Junior commissioned officers
3. Non-commissioned officers
