Application in prescribed format should be sent in an envelope superscribed with bold letters as “Application for the posts of ……………….. “ to Office of the Regional Director, Staff Selection Commission, (Western Region) 1ST Floor, Pratishtha Bhavan, 101, MK Road, Mumbai – 400020, on or before 12.02.2011 and far-flung areas is 19.02.2011.
SELECTION PROCEDURES:
PRELIMINARY SELECTION
i. Usually, the selection to the posts will be made on the basis of an Interview/ Personality Test/Skill Test. Mere fulfilling of minimum prescribed qualifications etc. would not entitle a applicant to be called for the Interview/ Personality Test/Skill Test. Commission may make a preliminary selection of applicants on the basis of their educational qualifications, academic records, percentage of marks etc. and the applicants thus selected will be required to undergo an interview/Personality Test/Skill Test.
ii. The Commission may, at its discretion decide not to hold a Proficiency Test in appropriate subject for any of the categories of posts or to make a screening of applicants on the basis of percentage of marks on the EQ, where it is felt necessary, before the applicants are called for Interview/Personality Test/Skill Test/Proficiency Test. The Proficiency Test would be in the relevant subject, which will be intimated to the applicants in due course of time.
iii. The Commission may at its discretion, waive holding of Proficiency Test in those categories of posts where a Proficiency Test have been prescribed.
NOTE: The Interview/Personality Test is structured in such a manner that are applicants’ interests, knowledge, various traits, aptitude, suitability etc. are probed, among other things, through academic qualifications, extra-curricular activities, general awareness/knowledge, depth of knowledge of the subject studied on the level of “Essential Qualification” for the post, communicative Skill and Personality etc.:
SCREENING TEST
i. The Commission may, at its discretion decide to hold a screening test for any of the categories where it is felt necessary before Interview/Personality Test/Proficiency Test/Skill Test.
ii. The Commission, may at its discretion, where it is felt necessary, without holding Screening Test may screen the applicants by the method of short listing on the basis of percentage of marks on the prescribed Essential Qualification for the post.
iii. Only such of the Applicants who qualify in the Screening test or otherwise at the standard fixed by the Commission at their discretion would be eligible for being called for the Interview/Personality Test/ Proficiency Test/ Skill Test.

About Staff Selection Commission
In the year 1967-68, committee of parliament in its 47th report suggested to set up Staff Selection Commission for conducting examination to recruit staff for its central government division. Government of India decided to prepare a separate department to recruit staff in the year 1975. The department was renamed on September 26, 1977 as SSC (Staff Selection Commission).
Since 1977 SSC now recruits people to group B and group C for the post of various central or subordinate offices of the government of India, accountant for its general offices, Central Vigilance commission & election commission and many other department comes with central functionality.
SSC also conducts departmental examination for promotion from group D to LCD, LCD to UDC. SSC has wide national network with consist of 9 Regional/Sub regional offices located at Kolkata, Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Allahabad, Bangalore, Guwahati and sub-regional offices at Chandigarh and Raipur.
Major tasks of SSC includes implementation of policies and programmes of commission, monitoring its field operations creating and maintaining relationship between State government and other departments, establishing arrangement for smooth and impartial examination for either promotion or selection. SSC also prepare necessary arrangements for conducting interview wherever required and locating examination center within its jurisdiction. SSC conducts its examination at about 90 examination centers with over 766 venues.
During the year 2005-06 SSC conducted 8 all India open examination and 3 departmental examination. Overall applicants were around 15.7 lakhs for open examination and about 3375 for departmental examination and 22968 applied for selection posts. All those examination was conducted under the supervision of SSC and it was conducted very efficiently.
The applicants for SSC is increasing day by day and maintaining the standard is also a challenge for the board. SSC is headed by chairman with 2 members and a secretary cum controller of examination. When it comes to serve the nation only one name comes to the mind appear which is “SSC”.
