Food Corporation of India (FCI)

The Food Corporation of India (FCI) was set up under the act of Food Corporation Act (1964). The main objective of FCI is to offer farmer remuneration prices, making food grains available in cheaper price, especially for weaker section, to maintain buffer stock for food security and stabilize the food grain price.  Apart from it also plays important role in implementing National Policy for Price Support of food grains.  Currently, FCI concentrates on providing help to farmer in various forms.

FCI plays an important role in offering food to almost half of Indian population with the help of its wide network spread across India. FCI also plays important role in increasing the number of tones from 72 million tons to 210 million tones. FCI with its fast pace service and buffer stock system it has helped Indian Government lot in making decision regarding Food grains.
 

FCI is being certified with ISO 9001-2000 to its entire headquarters. FCI is changing its R&D method by adopting Management Information System (MIS) to all its regional centers in India. This method is also called as “Integrated Information System for Food grain Management” (IISFM) which is a web based system helps in knowing the workflow of FCI.  With the implementation of this method the Management System in being strengthened and has Government and other FCI departments.

There are some new initiatives that are undertaken by FCI such as:

• Mobilizing resource for reducing the food subsidy.

• To have better financial strategy

• Upgrading technology with the help of Agriculture institute and Management Institute

•  To create profit centers

• To start using A till texture instead B till for reducing loss.

FCI has spread it center in all the zones of India which helps in distributing the food.
