Management Aptitude Test (MAT) by ATMA


AIMS Test for Management Admissions (ATMA) is an open examination being conducted to help students to join various management courses in various institutes located in India. AIMS is a national network of management schools. It is the formal face of all the national and international Indian Management Schools dealing with management education. AIMS regularly conducts the ‘AIMS Test for Management Admissions (ATMA) as a standard examination for the eligible students to get entry into the postgraduate management proramme. It is recognized by the AICTE and mainly concentrates on the development of a student on all respects. The student will be tested in various spheres such as quantitative skills, verbal skills and analytical skills. It is a credible but comprehensive single window testing for providing admissions to various postgraduate management programs. ATMA has also been approved by the Ministry of Human Resource Development of the Government of India for admissions on All India Basis to the MBA / PGDM and other Postgraduate Programmes such as MCA. The first ATMA test was held on 20th February, 2000, Sunday. Then onwards every year the test is being conducted to provide a platform to the aspiring MBA students. The 12th ATMA exam for 2010 was conducted on 14th February. The pre-requisite to apply for this exam is a bachelor’s degree in any discipline. Even the students appearing for the final year examinations in the present year can also the ATMA MAT exams. There are about 31 centres for these coveted exams and every year the number of students appearing for the exam is multiplying considerably. In reality clearing ATMA exam may not automatically ensure a seat in any of its management schools. It is a test mainly to assess the aptitude of the students for management education. Around 80 management institutes have accepted ATMA for their admissions processes. However the final say lies with the school management to accept or reject a candidate. ATMA results are actually valid for one year. But it is upto the management of the particular school to decide if they want to consider the scores of older ATMA exams. These exams are valid more as they are considered as transparent enough to guarantee the quality of the students passing out. It releases the candidate’s scores in each section along with percentiles covering the entire population. This makes it trustworthy for the institutes to accept the ATMA passed students into their management courses.
