The Indian Navy
Applications are invited from unmarried male candidates for grant of Short Service Commission (SSC) in the Executive Branch (General Service/Hydro Cadre) of the Indian Navy for Jan 2012 Course at Indian Naval Academy (INA) Ezhimala, Kerala. Candidates to fulfill conditions of nationality as laid down by the Government of India.
SELECTION PROCEDURE:
(a) The candidates will be issued call up for Services Selection Board (SSB) based on their performance in Degree Course. If a candidate possesses higher qualification with better percentage, his higher qualification will be considered for cut off. Integrated Headquarters, Ministry of Defence (Navy) reserves the right to shortlist applications and to fix cut off percentage without assigning any reason. No communication will be entertained on this account. SSB interviews for short listed candidates will be scheduled at Bangalore/ Bhopal/ Coimbatore during Jun to Nov 2011.
(b) SSB interview will be conducted in two Stages. Stage I test consisting of intelligence test, Picture Perception and Discussion test will be conducted on the second day of arrival at SSB. Candidates who fail to qualify in Stage I will be routed back on the same day. Stage II tests comprising of Psychological testing, Group testing and Interview will last for 04 days. Successful candidates will thereafter undergo Medical Examination (approx duration 03-05 days).
(c) Candidates recommended by the SSBs and declared medically fit will be appointed for training in Order of all India Merit depending on the number of vacancies.
(d) Change of SSB Centre for interview is not permissible under any circumstance.
(e) Any correspondence regarding change of SSB dates be addressed to the President of the SSB on receipt of call up letter and copy endorsed to Directorate of Manpower Planning & Recruitment (OI&R), Room No 204, ‘C’ wing. Sena Bhawan, IHQ-MoD (N), New Delhi-110011 (Fax No 011-23011282).
(f) No compensation will be paid in respect of any injury sustained as a result of tests.
(g) Return 2nd Class Sleeper rail fare is admissible for the SSB interview, if appearing for the first time for this entry.

The Indian Navy has 4 Commands,viz
Far Eastern Naval Command located at Port Blair

Flag Officer Commanding in Chief leads each of the commands. The Flag Officer Commanding in Chief is usually an officer of the rank Vice Admiral.
He Indian Navy ships are prefixed with INS before their names. The Indian Navy uses the Delhi and the Rajput guided missile destroyers. The Godavari, Brahmaputra and Talwar class are used as guided missile frigates. The Abhay, Veer, Khukri and Kora class are used as Corvettes. The INS Viraat is the only aircraft carrier used by the Indian navy. The Indian navy also operates various submarines. The Shishumar and Sindhughosh class are diesel powered submarines. The INS Chakra and INS Arihant are the Indian Navy’s Nuclear powered submarines.
The Indian Navy has made important contributions durint the Invasion of Goa in 1961, Indo-Pakistan War of 1965, Operation Cactus in 1988, Operation Parakram in 2001 and 2002, Indian Ocean Earthquake in 2004 and Operation Sukoon in 2006.
