India Meteorological Department (IMD) invites applications for 30 No. of Senior Research Fellows (SRFs) at different locations all over India (Annexure-I) to be recruited purely on temporary/contractual basis in the project “Forecasting Agricultural output using Space, Agrometeorology and Land based Observations (FASAL)”.  The project ‘FASAL’ funded by Ministry of Agriculture (Department of Agriculture & Cooperation), New Delhi. Persons recruited under this project would get an opportunity to work on development of crop yield forecast at State and National level by integrating and interpreting remote sensed satellite imageries, meteorological data and crop information. The tenure of the above posts will be up to the end of 11th five-year plan period i.e. 31.03.2012 or co-terminus with the Project.  However, it may be extended further if project performance is found satisfactory by Ministry of Agriculture.  SRFs will have opportunity to work with well qualified and experienced scientists at Agricultural Meteorology Division of India Meteorological Department, Pune, IMD HQ (Agromet Service Cell), New Delhi and State Meteorological Centres located at 23 places all over India as per Annexure-I appended below.

Educational Qualification and Experience :

Essential Qualification*

Post Graduate degree (MSc/M.Tech) in Meteorology or M.Sc.(Agriculture) in Agrimet/ Ag.Phys. / Agronomy / Soil Science/ Agricultural Statistics or B.Sc.(Ag) with MCA in Computer Science from a recognized University / Institution.

Desirable Qualification

Candidate with knowledge/ experience in Meteorological data processing/ remote sensing/ GIS/ Crop Simulation Modeling preferred.

Nationality/Age: Indian nationals with the following age limits are eligible to apply.

Age Limit: Age should be below 35 years for men and 40 years for women for SRF as on 1.7.2010 (age relaxation up to 5 years for SC/ST and 3 years for OBC candidates).   Further age relaxation may be given to the candidates with experience in Agrometeorology.

SELECTION PROCEDURE / APPOINTMENT :
Applications will be screened and candidates found suitable will be called to appear for an interview at 4 places (region-wise) i.e. New Delhi, Kolkata & Pune and Bangalore. Preference will be given to those candidates whose research interest and work experience has relevance to the mandate of the Project. The selected candidates will be offered Fellowship at IMD for an initial period of 1 year which may be extended by another year based on the performance of the candidate and requirement in the Department. The above positions are purely temporary contractual and co-terminus with the project. There is no provision of re-employment after termination of the project.  No TA/DA will be paid to any candidate for attending the interview.  Candidate should not have any type of conviction in the court anywhere in India.

HOW TO APPLY


a) The application should be preferably be typewritten on a plain paper as per the proforma given below.Candidates may apply for posting at one station only specifying the Post Code & Station in the relevant column in the application form.  Multiple applications received would be rejected.

b) Attach only photocopies of the following documents / certificates duly attested by a Gazetted Officer / Head of the Institution (Do not enclose original certificates).
i) All degree certificates and mark sheets starting with HSC and up to the eligibility qualification.
ii) Proof of date of birth e.g. CBSE/ HSC/ SSC/ Matriculation certification.
iii) SC/ST/OBC certificate, if applicable, as per the prescribed format.

c) Enclose a self addressed envelope (size 5”x7”) with complete postal address including PIN code affixing postage stamp of Rs.5/-.
d) Affix one passport size photograph on the space provided in the application format and enclose one spare photograph inside the envelope indicated at “c” above. Append your signatures across both the photographs.
e) Persons working under the Central / State Government / Public Sector Undertakings should submit their applications through proper channel.
g) Applications to the following address may be sent preferably by Registered or Speed Post.   Applications can be submitted by hand also at the following address.  The last date of receiving of applications in this office is 30.09.2010.
