About Staff Selection Commission of India
The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) India is responsible for conducting exams to recruit eligible candidates for Group C and Group B cadre. Group C is meant for non-technical posts and Group B deals with non – gazetted but both technical and non – technical posts. SSC covers all the departments of Government of India along with the subordinate divisions except for the Railway Recruitment Board and Other Industrial organizations. The exam covers jobs of Auditors/Assistants/Jr. Accountants/LDC/UDC/Inspectors of Income Tax, Sub-Inspectors in Central Police Organizations like CRPF, BSF, ITBP. CISF and SSB) and various other central government jobs. Depending on the level of post available, the applicant needs to be a graduate or at least matric level pass.
SSC is headed by a Chairman, who will be assisted by 2 members and a Secretary-cum-Controller of Examinations, to spearhead the day –to-day operations of the Commission.
SSC has operates through its well structured network of 9 Regional / Sub – regional Offices. These offices are located at major Indian cities like Guwahati, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Allahabad, New Delhi, Kolkata. The sub-regional offices are set up in Raipur and Chandigarh. The offices efficiently carry out their duties of policy implementation, taking care of the programs introduced by the commission, field operations, conducting the exams without any hindrances to the main procedures. The commission also helps the interview panels and co-ordinates with various examination centres.
The Staff Selection Commission of India also conducts internal promotional examinations for promotion from Group D to LDC Grade, from LDC to UDC Grade and for Stenographers Grade D to Stenographers Grade C. It will also conduct typewriting tests in English and Hindi at regular intervals. Given ever increasing ratio of the people willing to take up the secure government jobs, the task of SSC remains one of the toughest as every year the number of aspirants in almost doubling. A detailed examination calendar will be published in the Employment News every year.
