About Tis Hazari court
In March 1783, a large Sikh Army commanded by Jassa Singh Ahluwalia, Bhagel Singh Kironsinghia[1], Rai Singh Bhangi and Gurdit Singh, Raja of Ladwa, advanced to the imperial capital and attacked the Red Fort. The place where 30000 troops of Sikh misl were garrisoned, later came to be known as Tis Hazari.
The Mughal Emperor, Shah Alam II, made a settlement with Sikhs agreeing to allow Baghel Singh to raise gurdwaras on Sikh historical sites in the city and realize six annas in a rupee (37.5%) of all the octroi duties in the capital. This was the period that the great gurudwaras of Old Delhi were built.
It is mentioned in some renowned books that Tis Hazari, the present site name is given because of the garden made by the great Mughal Emperor, Shahjehan which had 30,000 trees
This is where the present day Tis Hazari District Courts is located, that serve as the district sessions court for the National Capital Territory, as well as several other local courts, which together constitute the largest and busiest court complex in Asia
