ABOUT INDIAN SPACE RESEARCH ORGANISATION

The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) was created in 1969 by Dr.Vikram Sarabhai. It was the primary body created for space research under the control of the Government of India. ISRO controls all the space activities anywhere in India. The primary objective of ISRO is to develop Space Technology.   ISRO has launched various operations and is associated with a number of scientists and many other foreign clients. It has many links with the Soviet Union which helped in the rapid development of the organization. India’s economic growth also helped the space program develop and be more active. The first nuclear test conducted by India was through ISRO in Pokhran in 1974. After the successful nuclear test, ISRO launched the Satellite Launch Vehicle (SLV) in 1983, then the Augmented Satellite Launch Vehicle (ASLV) in early 1980’s. The Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) helped India to launch Indian Remote Sensing Satellite. It has also launched 30 spacecraft into the orbit so far. In April 2008, it launched 10 satellites at once, breaking a world record for India to be the first country ever to launch 10 satellites at once. Then ISRO created and launched INSAT (Indian National Satellite System).

ISRO headquarters is located at Antariksh Bhavan in Bangalore. Under the supervision of ISRO, various space centers work which are located in different places in India. The various satellites launched by ISRO helped India in various applications such as telecommunications, land management, water resources, weather forecasting and so on. ISRO made a number of achievements and one of the major achievements was to discover the bacteria in the upper stratosphere which is highly resistant to UV – radiation. ISRO’s technology is even applied in the field of telemedicine where people in remote areas are treated through video conference. ISRO has many links with various foreign countries and now plays an important role in various scientific operations worldwide. It is a National Prestige for our country to achieve so much in the space exploration by the ISRO.
