UPSC IFS Exam Syllabus IFS Exam Pattern IFS Exam Sample Papers Guide books Indian Forest Service (IFS) Examination

Candidates are advised to prepare for IFS exam with study materials and should know better about Exam Pattern, Syllabs, Sample Papers, Guide books, Previous Years Question Papers etc. Understanding Exam Pattern and Syllabus is essential and should be a part of Exam Preparation.

UPSC IFS Exam Pattern : The exam consists of written test and Interview. Those who are selected in the written test are called for Interview.

Written test consists of following sections:

Paper I = General English the paper consists of 300 marks
Paper II = General Knowledge the paper consists of 300 marks

Optional Papers:
Paper III =  200 marks
Paper IV = 200 marks
Paper V = 200 marks
Paper VI = 200 marks

A total of 1400 marks in the IFS Exam and the interview carries 300 marks.

IFS Exam Optional Papers:

You must choose a combination of following subjects:

Agriculture and Agricultural Engineering
Agriculture and Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Science
Chemistry and Chemical Engineering
Mathematics and Statistics.
Not more than one Engineering subjects

Syllabus For Compulsory papers for IFS Exam:

General English Syllabus
Candidates will be required to write an essay in English. Other questions will be designed to test their understanding of

English and workmanlike use of words. Passages will usually be set for summary or precise.

General Knowledge Syllabus
General Knowledge, including knowledge of current events and of such matters of every day observation and experience in their scientific aspects as may be expected of an educated person who has not made a special study of any scientific subject. The paper will also include questions on Indian Polity including the political system and the Constitution of India, History of India and Geography of a nature which candidate should be able to answer without special study.

About Indian Forest Service (IFS)


Indian Forest Service (IFS) Examination

Indian forest service (IFS) is conducted by UPSC (union public service commission). The educational qualification necessary to give this exam is that the candidate should have the Bachelor degree with at least one of the subjects from Animal Husbandry, Veterinary Science, Statistics , Geology Botany, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics and Zoology or should have a degree in Agriculture/Forestry/Engineering of any recognized University.

There is certain Age Limits for giving this IFS exam, the candidates age must be in between 21-30 years. There is some relaxation in upper limit of age for certain candidates.

The candidates can know about the dates of the exams and the eligibility criteria in the employment news/Rozgar samachar and
newspaper of the country.

There are certain eligibility conditions for Indian Forest Service Exam (IFS) like the candidate must be a citizen of India
or Nepal or Bhutan. The candidates who had decided to get permanently settled in India can also give this exam.

Candidates who have given the examination but not been informed of the results can appear at IFS examination and he/she is
eligible for admission to this examination. But the admission is cancelled if the proof of passing certificated is not provided.  The candidates are permitted four attempts for appearing at the IFS Examination. There is no restriction on the number of attempts for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe candidate. Seven attempts are provided to the candidates of other Backward Classes.

The IFS has total 6 papers which are General English, General Knowledge, and the other 2 papers are selected from the
optional subjects “Agriculture, Agricultural Engineering, Animal Husbandry, Veterinary Science, Botany, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering Civil Engineering Forestry Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering Physics Statistics Zoology The totals marks of the IFS exam is 1400 marks.
