Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Indian Engineering Services (IES) Examination


Candidates must go through the study material and prepare themselves better for the UPSC IES Exam. They should also go through sample papers, previous years question papers, solved papers, question banks, guide books, model papers etc.

Understanding Exam pattern and syllabus are essential for the aspiring candidates.

Exam Pattern for Electronics Engineering: IES Exam consists of total 1200 marks including 1000 marks for written test and 200 marks for Interview (if shortlisted).

IES Written test : 600 marks for Objective test and 400 marks for Conventional test

Objective Test Papers:

General Ability Test: 200 marks ( two hours)
Electronics Engineering Paper I: 200 marks ( two hours)
Electronics Engineering Paper II: 200 marks ( two hours)
Total 120 questions in each paper

Objective type test consists of multiple-choice questions with four options, in which you have to choose the correct option.

Negative marking also there, so be very careful while you answer the questions.

Conventional Test Papers:

Electronics Engineering Paper I: 200 marks (three hours)
Electronics Engineering Paper II: 200 marks (three hours)

UPSC decides the cut-off depending upon the performance of the candidates in both the Objective Test Papers and Conventional Test Papers.

About Union Public Service Commission


During the pre-independence era, Indianisation of the advanced Civil Services was the prime motive of the political party. The British Indian Government had to take action and set up the Public Service Commission for recruitment the services in the union territory of India in the year 1926.

In the year 1935, the British set up the Federal Public Service Commission, as the people were unhappy with functioning process by its advisory. It was in the year 1950; the Federal Public Service Commission given a constitutional status, which established under the Article 315 of the Constitution of India.

Members of UPSC:
The President of India appoints the Chairman and nine other members for UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) in India. The members have to follow the terms and condition set up by the Union Public Service Commission (Members) Regulations, 1969. The commission chief responsibility is to handle manpower solutions by fulfilling the vacant seat in the Civil Services and registered the Services fitting to the Union and States (viz. All-India Services).

Recruitment Process:
Under Article 320 of the Constitution of India, the Commission is inter-alia. Since, the commission had to consult all the matter relating to recruitment from civil services to other posts.

a)    The recruitment processes are done under three ways such as Direct Recruitment, Promotion and Transfer.
b)    By written test followed by personal interview
c)    Appointment by Promotion and transfer on deputation/transfer
d)    All India Services
e)    Mechanisation - Project Sampera

Recruitment & Condition of Services:  The necessities included in Article 309 & Article 311 of the Constitution are required to examine union with the provisions included in Article 320 of the Indian Constitution.

Under the Article 323 of the constitution, the commission had to submit the annual report to the president. The President uses the copy as a receipt and with memorandum; with respect to the cases and for any reason if the commission fails to follow the rules then he would have to produce himself before each House of the Parliament.
